Well Singapore is going to suck me dry.
I had one of the deepest sleeps of my life even though my bunk bed was shocking, woke up early, ate my free toast and went to the train station to book a ride to KL. It ended up costing me $38 so after buying the ticket I have $3 left for Singapore, which is enough to buy one cheap meal. I met an English guy at the station called Will, he had a couple of hours to kill before his train so we went down the road and he shouted me a couple of beers and a banana, which was cool. I left Will at about 12:30 and my train is at 10pm. It started raining and my pack was feeling heavy so I went and sat on the floor in the train station to do some writing but the cleaning lady came and kicked me out. I walked to China Town and now I’m sitting on the steps outside a shopping centre. China Town’s pretty interesting so I think I’ll just chill out here for a couple of hours and then go on a mission this evening to find some awesome food for $3.
Woah. This is proving to be quite a challenging day. Its 4:40pm and I’m feeling pretty tired and hungry. I’ve spent most of the day wandering around looking for places to sit. I sat for about an hour on a park bench surrounded by sleeping old men and now I’ve just walked for a bit and found a table so I think I’ll just sit here until dinner time. I think jet lag, combined with heat, and having to ration water has rendered me weak and exhausted, sitting is best, and people watching is fun.
There seems to be old men everywhere doing just what I’m doing, sitting around or sleeping.
I’m on the train, it’s pretty cramped, but the bed is probably more comfortable than last night’s. I just read a sign saying we have to pay 100RB for a visa on arrival, that’s like $50 and I actually only have 170RB. This whole detour has ended up costing fortune. I may even skip KL and just push on through to Thailand where it’s cheap and I can chill on the beach.
