But thanks to a NZ DJ down in Rotorua, Ten Guitars received more air-play, and became a cult-favourite in pubs up and down the country. Despite stations being initially reluctant to play the artist due to his ‘un-marketable’ stage name, the song became an anthem in NZ; an expression of joy, freedom and even belonging for those who had shifted from the back-country marae to the bright lights and big city.
